Family root/genealogy/lineage is a matured field in Europe.  China has extensive root tracing too, with population movement tracked closely; so that migration from villages to cities can be monitored closely (some sort of social engineering).  However, in this part of the world (Singapore, Malaysia) this is a relatively green field.

As materials getting fewer and fewer I hope the community at large out there would provide some links and information to pursue this further.  I try to collate materials related to Chinese genaelogy or culture, listing them here:
